RISKAFRICA Subscription

July definitely kept our industry on our toes! Much havoc was caused by the extreme weather conditions, from inland tornadoes to heavy rains on the coast causing flood and severe damage to many homes and buildings. I'm sure many of you were traveling to the Berg to experience the snowcapped mountains. Such beauty yet so much destruction caused at the same time.

A highlight of the month was the annual IISA Conference at Sun City. The IIKZN had the privilege of attending this prestigious event. We had such exciting networking opportunities with both local and foreign experts in the industry, from Dallas Booth, CEO of the National Insurance Brokers Association of Australia, to our deputy executive of the FSB, Caroline Da Silva. With a wealth of knowledge from 13 speakers, both foreign and local, hot topics related to the 'business unusual' theme were discussed. Cyber risks, the changing risk landscape, the impact of climate change and regulations abroad, to name but a few. All the speakers presentations are available on the IISA website. I urge you all to go and have a look to keep updated with the times and understand what's happening on other soils. As with every IISA Conference, much fun was had at the Bollywood-themed party sponsored by Altech Netstar. The Gala dinner, sponsored by Allianz and Africa Re SA, whereby our members are awarded for their achievements, was an absolute standout. Carte Blanche's Bongani Bingwa was the MC, and Idols 2010 Runner Up Lloyd Cele entertained the crowd with much energy. The pictures say it all!

Thanks and regards,

Candice Murie

A number of members have advised that they are not receiving the newsletter. After some investigating we have established that the main reasons for not receiving the emails are as follows:

  • Spam filter - This would be due to the email appearing in the users junk mail.
  • Block list - Often if people receive marketing mailers, they may opt to unsubscribe. If they do this, they are automatically added to a "Block list". As long as an email appears in the list, no matter how many times it is added to the distribution list, it will not send to the recipient.
Please check to see that the emails are not in either the Spam Filter or Block List.

egoli golf challenge 2016

This event is an annual golf day played between the various Insurance Institutes from around the country and this year it was the turn of the Insurance Institute of Northern Gauteng to be the hosts. They booked the Parys Golf & Country Estate in Parys and the event took place on 01/09/2016.

Very briefly, each Institute selects their team (of 12) who compete to win the Egoli Challenge Trophy and to date the IIKZN has won this event three times. This year we came a very commendable third, with the winners being the Gauteng team.

Many thanks must go to all the sponsors for their on-going generous support as without them taking part in events of this nature just would not be possible. Our sponsors were as follow :TRACKER / IIKZN / ACE AUTO / PETER CHRISTIE INS BROKERS / ONE / COMPENDIUM / BIDVEST INSURANCE LTD / SAFIRE INSURANCE / MANDOS AUTO SPARES / AON SA.
