Education have also been very busy with arranging further workshops so more about that under Education. Brief details & some of the photos of the Santam Minute to Win It challenge are included in this edition.

EDUCATION News

Dear Valued Members,

We are pleased to welcome Theresa van Zyl (MUA) to the IIKZN Education Committee Team. Theresa will replace Vincent Loganathan, who has opted for a role in our Sports Committee.

The IISA Information Breakfast Session was held on Wednesday, 24th June 2015 at the Westville Country Club. This highly popular event was presented by Charmaine Koch, Professional Development Manager at the IISA. Our gratitude to our valued sponsors, Frontline Underwriting Managers and MUA for their cash sponsorships and Lion of Africa for the lucky draw prizes.

The session was very well attended by our members and was very informative. Our education team was hard at work putting the next Workshop together. The Commercial Workshop was held on Friday, 10 July 2015 at the Westville Country Club. We were honoured to have some esteemed members of our industry presenting this workshop. Billy Neethling – Holburn Insurance Brokers, Dave Alborough – Ian Hogg and Associates and Vanitha Kalicharan – Zurich (IIKZN Education Chair). This workshop was attended by 64 delegates and the Education Committee wishes to thank each one of you for your interaction and participation in making this a success.

Still a relatively new event on the IIKZN calendar but getting more and more popular every year. All the feedback has confirmed that it was GREAT FUN, went off extremely well and no doubt this event can only get bigger and better.

After a close fought battle lasting the entire evening, the winners were the team from HOLLARD. Many thanks to SANTAM for their on-going support of the IIKZN and coming up with a fun, novel & very enjoyable event that caters for all ages, shapes and sizes.

A vacancy has arisen for a Marketer/Account Executive within the Short Term Insurance industry on the South Coast.
The candidate should be an assertive self-starter of strong personality with a passion for client service; be target driven and aim to exceed expectations and be a factual and logical problem solver. We are looking for a team player who can operate well under pressure and who embraces Treating Customers Fairly principles.

Qualifications: Matric, (NQF 4), Meet the FAIS Fit & Proper requirements, passed the Regulatory Exam – Representative, have a minimum of 5 years underwriting, claims and marketing experience.
Responsibilities and duties will include but are not limited to: Manage the sourcing and securing of new business
Ensure retention of existing business.

  • Manage the renewals of existing portfolio and generate organic growth.
  • Ensure the reporting and evaluation of monthly loss ratios, new business and cancellations.
  • Responsible to identify, execute and report on marketing initiatives.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with relevant internal and external stakeholders.
  • Meet goals and metrics.
  • Address customer satisfaction issues promptly.
  • Adhere to high ethical standards and comply with all regulations/applicable legislations.

    CHRISTINE ALLAN AWARD 2015

    AWARD NOMINATIONS

    Once again the IIKZN council is requesting members to assist in nominating a colleague in the short-term insurance industry for consideration to receive the Christine Allan Award.

    This extremely prestigious award is handed out at the IIKZN Annual Gala Dinner subject to a suitable candidate being nominated. The person put forward should fit the following criteria:

    “For outstanding contribution to the short-term insurance industry in KZN, by an individual who has demonstrated exemplary performance and commitment”

    Note that a sub-committee involving the IIKZN past presidents will make the final decision. Please forward your nominations and a 1 page C.V. to Nicolette Clements Nicolette.clements@mf.co.za as soon as possible.

    LONG SERVICE AWARDS - 2015
    It is at our Gala Dinner that we recognise those short term members of our industry who have completed 35 or more years of service.

    Once again the format will remain the same with recognition of either 35, or 40, or 45, or 50 or 55 years, with no further acknowledgement of service.

    If you have completed one of these required years of service, will be attending our Gala Dinner on 14th November 2014, and wish to apply for recognition, kindly send us short CV providing details of your employment history, as well as highlights/interesting industry experiences from your career.

    NOTE A number of members have advised that they are not receiving the newsletter. After some investigating we have established that the main reasons for not receiving the e-mails are as follows:

    • Spam filter - This would be due to the email appearing in the users junk mail.
    • Block list - Often if people receive marketing mailers, they may opt to unsubscribe, if they do this, they are automatically added to a "Block list". As long as an email appears in the list, no matter how many times it is added to the distribution list, it will not send to the recipient.
    Please check to see that the e-mails are not in either the Spam Filter or Block List.

    2015 Membership fee increase: Please note effective January 2015 the membership fee has been increased from R50.00 to R75.00 per annum

    • Educational experiences with relevance to the insurance subjects and general industry information, in the form of events; keeping abreast of study route information and industry developments, with guidance from the IISA.

    In addition you will receive a monthly newsletter with details of forthcoming events and feedback on previous events held. You will also be kept informed via a variety of media platforms.

    Note: your membership follows you, so if your current company paid your membership, after which you change company, your membership remains in force until the next renewal, after which your new company will be responsible for the following year's membership payment.
